I didn't think too much about it when I started including cell phones in my work. Since they were introduced in 2007, smartphones began to show up everywhere so they naturally became part of my work when it shows people on the street. They have become so ubiquitous, I was a bit surprised when people remarked on phones in my paintings.
Art studio hazards
Being an oil painter used to be pretty hazardous work, what with toxic pigments like vermilion, lead white, and chrome yellow, as well as toxic solvents like turpentine. Things have improved a lot since then, but it pays to understand the risks.
How I Use Oils to Paint Water
It's natural that a lot of my scenes of Florida and other vacation destinations include water. I find that painting the transparency and reflections of water in oceans and marinas is challenging but very satisfying. And when I succeed, it's magical!
